Regional Packet Gateway Takes to the Cloud
Our Regional Packet Gateway (RPG) made waves when we launched it two years ago. Today, we’re pleased to announce a major update: we’ve brought it to the cloud!
RPG came to life to solve the difficulties of home routing. It sends data traffic to the nearest of Deutsche Telekom’s globally positioned gateways instead of all the way back to the originating country. Local routing thus enables the faster, enhanced delivery needed for the transport requirements of mission-critical IoT and M2M use cases.
However, at Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier we never stop innovating. One year ago, we developed enhancements to the RPG solution, which now provides 60% lower latency, 100% higher throughput volume, and 50% quicker download speeds than before. And to take RPG’s evolution a major step forward, we’ve just brought out our new cloud-based production model.
The upgraded service allows the faster launch of additional gateways as well as quicker deployment to new customers at existing cloud locations. Operational efficiency is also increased, while the cost of operations is decreased. The cloud infrastructure guarantees the platform scalability our customers require, especially when it comes to future 5G applications.
Csaba Füzesi, Head of Product Management said, “We expect that low latency data roaming connectivity will be a primary technical requirement from our customers in the next years. We were therefore looking for a flexible yet robust solution that provides fast time-to-market and high scalability. I am confident that with this new cloud-infrastructure based model for Regional Packet Gateway, we have found exactly what we were looking for.”
