Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier Selects Perimeta SBC from Metaswitch: Pioneering Hybrid Cloud Deployment for International Voice Services
Bonn, Germany, January 12, 2021 – Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier today announced a new cooperation with cloud communications leader Metaswitch. The wholesale provider will deploy Metaswitch’s Perimeta Session Border Controller (SBC) to support the industry’s first hybrid cloud implementation for international interconnect services. The solution enables Deutsche Telekom to leverage private and public cloud environments to increase efficiency and rapidly expand points-of-presence into new global voice markets.
Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier is one of the world’s largest international wholesale providers, handling more than 26 billion voice minutes per year. The international deployment is part of Deutsche Telekom’s innovative voice evolution (EVO) project, with the goal of improving platform efficiency through automation, simplification and harmonization. It is overseen by the organization’s Network Infrastructure unit, which plans, builds and runs DT’s international network infrastructure and intercarrier services.
“Perimeta excelled in our technical evaluations and was the most suitable SBC solution that could meet our tight deployment timeline for hybrid cloud,” said Karl-Heinz Wagenführ, Project Lead International Voice Evolution, Network Infrastructure. “The ability to deploy in multiple clouds, including public clouds, provides unprecedented flexibility to quickly and cost-effectively establish presence in additional global locations and supports our strategy to connect the world to Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Telekom to the world.”
Today’s announcement builds on the Deutsche Telekom Group’s existing relationship with Metaswitch, in which Perimeta SBC supports the operator’s recently launched Next Generation IP Multimedia Subsystem (NIMS) platform in Germany. With Perimeta SBC for international interconnect, Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier extends the automation and cloudification of voice telephony on a global scale and lays the foundation for a multi-cloud strategy for international voice services.
Today, international expansion depends heavily on building out physical infrastructure to establish in-country points-of-presence (PoPs). By leveraging multiple clouds to set up PoPs, Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier removes physical network limitations, minimizes costs, and reduces deployment time.
“We’re proud to continue our work with a forward-thinking operator like DT,” said Shriraj Gaglani, Chief Marketing and Product Officer at Metaswitch. “International voice interconnect is an excellent use case for carrier network cloudification, and is well served by our Perimeta SBC. With full support for automation and orchestration, and the flexibility to be deployed in any cloud, we’re helping DT to spin up virtual POPs in minutes rather than months, enabling rapid launches into new geographies to deliver low latency, scalable, redundant voice services wherever and whenever it is required. This dramatically simplifies capacity planning, eliminates the traditional costs of over-provisioning and slashes the time to enter and expand in new markets.”
