Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier: Ready for a Transformed World
Blogpost in the name of Rolf Nafziger, Senior Vice President Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier
The global pandemic has completely changed our lives, and it will continue to affect the way we live and work for a long time to come. With so many working at home or using social media, at Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier, we saw volumes of internet traffic significantly increase compared to pre-corona times. However, we quickly noticed that our powerful platform would be able to cope with these amounts, and even up to double the amount of normal traffic.
Despite the surge in use, we have been able to provide our clients with uninterrupted, quality service. This was achieved thanks to our robust international infrastructure, the emergency plans we put into action, and the decisions we took over the last few years to make substantial technological investments. Together, they made it possible for us to quickly deal with the difficulties caused by the network strain.
After news about Covid-19 in China made the headlines, we immediately developed working groups to ensure business continuity.
Measures were developed to secure our infrastructures by monitoring traffic, analyzing data and proactively addressing capacity bottlenecks.
We also provided our partners with special offers to help their customers meet higher demand. Those included interventions such as deferment of existing orders or quick capacity upgrades.
The coronavirus has had the added effect of making businesses more aware than ever of the need for digitalization. Many organizations swiftly adopted digital technology to ensure their ability to continue working. Those that still have not are now feeling the associated drawbacks, and are clamoring to update their operations. As an industry, we need to be ready for this development, because with more digitalization, there will be more need for security.
Luckily, at Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier, we already have a vast portfolio of safety and fraud-fighting solutions.
This year, our 360° Defense Strategy has added another DDoS safeguarding service, which we call DDoS Platinum. This is the first time a service of this type has been found on the market. It eliminates the need for on-premise hardware, making it extremely cost effective and scalable while able to mitigate massive attacks.
Speaking of firsts, we have recently turned up the very first European 800G network which connects our data centers in Austria. This helps us cope with growing traffic requirements across our pan-European network by increasing network capacity and efficiency. We’ve worked on this in cooperation with Ciena, as we have long understood the benefits of partnering to bring innovations to the marketplace as quickly as possible. That’s why we’ve established a variety of partnerships, including one with Telefonica, Orange, T-Mobile US and the Global GSM Association to build a joint blockchain platform for smart inter-operator contracts.
For us, voice is also an important area, which we are always interested in enhancing with innovative developments. Another example of this is our new Dynamic Voice Exchange (DVX) with high definition voice service, or HD Voice. It enables the very best customer experience as background interference is reduced and voices are clearer with a more natural nuance.
At Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier, our forward-looking voice solutions strengthen the telco marketplace – which in turn positively affects society as whole.
