Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier makes a mark at Wireless Global Congress 2022
Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier has made a host of important contributions at this year’s Wireless Global Congress. Held in Chicago, Illinois during the week of June 6, 2022, the congress is Wi-Fi’s leading event and attracts a sizeable audience from the operator, service provider, technology & software vendor community. It is organized by the Wireless Broadband Alliance, a global organization that connects people with the latest Wi-Fi initiatives.
During the WBA Members-Only Working Sessions, Dr. Angelos Mavridis, Senior Manager Wi-Fi Roaming at Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier, presented the results of the In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) working group efforts in 2022. He was supported by colleagues from Inmarsat and SingleDigits, who showcased an innovative IFC demonstration on Wi-Fi Roaming. The demonstration is part of a whitepaper produced by the working group, which was published on May 24th exclusively for WBA members. The paper aims to help industry stakeholders, and particularly the airlines, to understand how to develop a holistic connectivity experience for the passenger allowing users easy connection to the inflight service and outside internet, while maintaining access to the airline portal for flight information, entertainment or additional purchases. Global publication will follow in three months.
As part of the WGC Open Congress, Angelos also delivered a presentation entitled “OpenRoaming can unleash Wi-Fi Roaming Like Cellular Roaming for MNO´s in Airplanes” to in-person as well as remote participants. He explained the ‘Wi-Fi Roaming like Cellular Roaming’ concept in further detail and discussed the importance and features of the OpenRoaming platform, which was launched in 2020.
Because of his dedication and continuous efforts in the Wireless Broadband Alliance, Angelos was given the WBA Recognition Award for Leadership in 2021/2022. He has been representing Deutsche Telekom Group in the WBA for nine years running and is member of the WBA Board of Directors since July 2019. Angelos also acts as a bridge to his colleagues active in the GSMA and in other alliances. Since 2018, he is leading the WBA group “In-Flight Connectivity” in the Roaming Work Group. In 2014 and 2015, he was co-leader of the Interoperability Compliance Program (ICP) of the WBA. Congratulations on this deserved recognition!
