Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier Further Extends Lambda Network
- Lambda network receives expansion with new route from Sofia to Varazdin
- Lower latency with shorter link from Sofia to Vienna
- Increases diversity with more options across the entire area
Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier has introduced a new route along its expansive Lambda network, spanning from Sofia, Bulgaria to Varazdin, Croatia. This establishes a trajectory between Sofia and Vienna, Austria, that is significantly shorter than the previous pathway, resulting in a 5ms latency improvement. The service also enhances diversity within the region, as the German provider offers several Points-of-Presence (PoPs) from Varazdin, including locations such as Zagreb or Budapest.
The new route also presents a viable substitute for the heavily utilized Budapest - Vienna connection as it circumvents that area. Beatrix Kapitany, Head of Sales Network Infrastructure Solutions at Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier added, "While our primary focus lies in delivering 100G services along the Sofia to Zagreb route, we are capable of catering to bandwidths ranging from 1G and 10G all the way up to 400G, thus tailoring our service to fit client needs. Customers can simply reach out to us, as we are always able to develop an appropriate solution."
Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier’s Lambda Connect solution quickly delivers large volumes of data across the world. It leverages Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme 800Gand is built upon the company’s DWDM architecture. The Lambda network continues to grow, as can be seen with this new route as well as a recent PoP launch in Balchick, Bulgaria. The latter has established a gateway that is the shortest route between Asia and Europe.
With Lambda Connect, Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier has shown itself to be an early adopter of 400GE technology. Compared to 4 x 100GE, 400 GE reduces the need for multiple interfaces, ports, power, space, equipment, and cooling, resulting in a more sustainable and efficient solution. The organization also offers encryption for data while in transport, with a unique end-to-end protection service called Encrypted Lambda.
