European Aviation Network Wins German Award for Excellence
The European Aviation Network took first place for Product Innovation at the German excellence awards – by revolutionizing connectivity in the sky!
Deutsche Telekom has again confirmed its position as one of Germany’s top innovation leaders!
That was made clear on January 18th at the German excellence awards in Frankfurt am Main, where DT garnered 1st place for product Innovation with the European Aviation Network. EAN is a pioneering solution that brings genuine broadband internet across the skies of Europe, for the first time.
By combining satellite and ground LTE stations, EAN allows amazing bandwidth in fast-moving aircraft – an unheard-of breakthrough that is now reality. DT developed the integral ground-based LTE technology and coordinated a detailed technical and operational design with the various parties involved. Two of the principal partners were Inmarsat, which provided the state-of-the-art S-band satellite; and Nokia, which supplied the necessary LTE components.
This German award for excellence, officially named the ‘Deutscher Exzellenz Preis’, honors the achievements of the country’s businesses and entrepreneurs that have developed excellent products, services or initiatives. It was founded by the German Institute for Service Quality (DISQ) and the DUB UNTERNEHMER magazine. Although only in its first year of existence, the jury already included some big names. Those included Wolfgang Clement, former Minister of Economics and Labor as well as well-known experts from the business, media and science.
