Deutsche Telekom launches two new IP PoPs

Bonn, Germany – August 2, 2018 – Deutsche Telekom’s International Carrier Sales & Solutions (ICSS) has announced the launch of two new IP Points-of-Presence (IP-PoPs) with bandwidths of several 100 gigabits per second (n x 100 Gbit/s) in Frankfurt and Berlin. The two internet hubs are hosted by e-shelter, a leading European data center provider.

The new infrastructure provides clients of both ICSS and e-shelter with direct access to Deutsche Telekom’s Tier 1 IP network, which is one of the world’s largest. As requirements for high-speed connectivity continually increase, these PoPs are part of ICSS’s strategy to expand its IP footprint, with focus on the fast-growing German market. With access to an all-IP network, businesses gain benefits including easier incorporation of digital applications and front-line positioning to take advantage of emerging technologies.

Matthias Maurer, Head of Product Management Internet & Transport at ICSS, said, “Today’s ever-growing data volumes match the rising expectations of users.  At ICSS we are always several steps ahead of demand because we’re committed to providing our customers and partners with superior, future-proof connectivity and quality. These new PoPs are part of that promise.”

The backbone of the internet are so-called IP core infrastructures with multiple connections at 100 Gbit/s each. Deutsche Telekom has extended its autonomous AS 3320 network around the e-shelter sites in Frankfurt – Europe's largest data center campus – and the Berlin 1 Data Center, with a colocation area of 13,000 square meters.

"The e-shelter data centers have developed into connectivity hubs for public cloud, carrier, content delivery networks and internet exchanges. The arrival of these new nodes in our Frankfurt 1 and Berlin 1 campus sites, further strengthens our carrier offering and means our customers will have direct 100 Gbit/s access to the Deutsche Telekom network," said Volker Ludwig, Senior Vice President Sales at e-shelter.
